Apr-2021:
I've been playing PC games since the mid-1990s, and Minecraft for around 8 or 9 years
For many of those years I used SEUS shaders, which kind of set the baseline for how I preferred Minecraft to look.
I came across RRe36's shaders in 2020 when I started to explore alternatives to SEUS PTGI.
I contribute to this Wiki because I think RRe36's shaders, Kappa in particular, enhance Minecraft above and beyond what many other shaders do, deserve to be more popular and widely used. The community around these shaders is lively and the developer is actively engaged and makes regular updates, which helps make it feel like a vibrant project.
Compared to many other shaders Kappa has a LOT of settings options, and at the time of writing the tool-tips help in the shaders menus is very sparse. I found this made it difficult to know how to tweak the shader options to my own preferences and how to optimise the inevitable trade-off between visual quality and PC performance.
The Discord channel is useful for spur of the moment questions and answers, but there could be real benefit in a reference guide or user manual for the shader, something RRe36 and I agreed on, and this Wiki started.
I am not a technical expert or a coder. I am a player with an interest in tweaking the settings, and making a reference guide to help myself and others get the best from Kappa shader.
